The Facts and FAQs

The Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) certification must be renewed every two years.
Recertification materials will be sent to you by PTCB approximately sixty days before your certification expiration date. (Contact PTCB to update your address whenever you move.)
Twenty contact hours of pharmacy-related continuing education in every 2 year period are required for recertification. At least one of the 20 hours must be in pharmacy law.
If your certification expires, you may be eligible for reinstatement under the guidelines found at: www.ptcb.org.
Pharmacy Tech Topics™ is designed to provide CPhTs with four modules of home-study continuing education each year. Upon successful completion of each module's post-test (70% or better), 2.5 hours of ACPE accredited continuing education credit will be awarded. This continuing education credit meets the PTCB requirements.
Each module will contain approximately 28 pages of written continuing education with learning objectives and references, a post-test, and a program evaluation. Pharmacy Tech Topics™ modules are authored by leading pharmacy experts in their field, and address the latest disease management and operational issues.

What is a Continuing Education Audit?
A certain number of CPhTs will be chosen by PTCB at random for an audit of continuing education. An audit is the detailed review by PTCB of your Continuing Education Statements of Credit, to insure you have met the PTCB requirements.
Does Pharmacy Tech Topics™ Provide Continuing Education Statements of Credit?
Yes, Pharmacy Tech Topics™ provides you with a Continuing Education Statement of Credit for each completed module. Your name, the title of the module, the date, the program provider, the number of hours awarded and the signature of the provider representative will be printed on your statement of credit.
Can I Carry Over Extra Continuing Education Hours Earned During My PTCB Two-Year Certification Period?
No, Extra hours earned during your current two-year certification period (over the 20 hours) may not be applied to the next certification period.
