Learning Objectives:
At the conclusion of this application-based continuing pharmacy education activity, pharmacist participants should be able to:
1. Identify appropriate and inappropriate use of Novel Oral Anticoagulant (NOAC) given a patient case.
2. Create an appropriate initial anticoagulation regimen with a NOAC for a patient presenting with a new need for anticoagulation.
3. Apply the current NOAC literature to a patient with valvular disease needing anticoagulation.
4. Design the correct dosing regimen for a NOAC based on indication and patient specific parameters for a given patient.
5. Assess the meaning of anticoagulation assays for a patient on NOAC.
At the conclusion of this application-based continuing pharmacy education activity, pharmacy technician participants should be able to:
1. Identify Novel Oral Anticoagulant (NOAC) agents by brand and generic name.
2. Identify agents and indications when NOAC regimens would be expected to change, given a patient case.
3. Select NOAC agents that must be stored under special conditions and which conditions are acceptable.
4. Demonstrate the ability to recognize potential duplication in anticoagulation regimens.

Target Audience: This application-based activity was developed for Health-System Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians.
NEW - PTCB now requires CPhTs to earn only pharmacy technician-specific (‘T-specific’) credit to qualify for recertification.
However, any Pharmacist or P-specific credit earned by technicians in 2014 will still be accepted for those recertifying in 2015. As of January 1, 2015, ALL CPE credit earned must be T-specific. In addition, PTCB will reduce the number of allowable CPE hours earned through in-service training from 10 to 5. Please advise all pharmacy technicians at your site of this change.
