Call for ASHP Delegates for 2011 and 2012

by By Scott A. Meyers, Executive Vice President
November 16, 2010

If you are an ASHP member and want to provide some input to its policy making process, this might be the opportunity for you. ICHP is responsible for conducting the election of Illinois’ five delegates to the ASHP House of Delegates each year. As a result, ICHP works to create consistency within the Illinois delegation by electing three delegates for two-year terms for the odd numbered years and two delegates for two-year terms for the even numbered years. This fall’s election will elect three delegates for the two year term of 2011 and 2012. In addition, we will hold a special election for one delegate to complete the two year term begun last year by Stan Kent, Assistant Vice President of Pharmacy Services, NorthShore University HealthSystem, Evanston, who is now ASHP’s Presidentelect. ICHP President, Carrie Sincak is currently the only returning 2011 delegate from 2010.

Delegates and alternate delegates to the ASHP House of Delegates are expected to attend and must be willing to pay their own expenses to travel to the ASHP Summer Meeting each year (including registration fees for the meeting). ICHP does not cover any of the Summer Meeting related expenses but does reimburse for up to one night stay, parking and mileage (if more than 75 miles each direction) at a Chicago area Regional Delegate Conference (RDC) in May for which attendance is required of all delegates and strongly suggested for all alternate delegates. The RDCs provide significant background information and preparation for serving in the ASHP House in June. Two RDCs in 2011 will be held in the O’Hare airport area on April 30th and May 1st or May 2nd and 3rd.

Interested ASHP pharmacist members should send their cover letter and CV to Scottm@ichpnet.org. Please provide a description of your volunteer activities within ASHP and ICHP in the cover letter as that will be used by the nomination committee for significant consideration in the slate development process. There will be a maximum of six candidates nominated for the three two-year terms and two candidates nominated for the single one-year term. The ICHP Committee on Nominations will make the final decision on the slate of candidates.

The ASHP House of Delegates is a great way to begin your ASHP volunteer experience or to continue to build on what you have already accomplished. A trip to Denver and/or Baltimore will certainly add excitement to your professional service!
