Description This position provides a unique and exciting opportunity to shape the practice-based education and clinical service initiatives at a new and innovative pharmacy program within a vibrant health science campus. The Medical College of Wisconsin (MCW) School of Pharmacy will prepare the next generation of pharmacists to meet the growing healthcare needs of society. MCW’s PharmD graduates will have the knowledge and expertise to practice at the “top of their license” and contribute to patient-centered care within a team-based model ensuring optimal medication therapy outcomes in concert with other healthcare professionals. In serving the four missions of MCW, the School of Pharmacy intends to become a destination program for health sciences education and practice, by engaging students, practitioners and researchers across the continuum of discovery to care, ensuring that graduates are practice-ready and team-ready.

Opportunity

Reporting to the Dean, the Director of Experiential Education is responsible for the planning, implementation, and assessment of all experiential education activities at the Medical College of Wisconsin School of Pharmacy. Working collaboratively with the Office of Experiential Education Team, clinical faculty and Co-Directors of Professional Practice Labs, the Director will execute the vision for an innovative experiential education curriculum, at the introductory, interprofessional, and advanced levels. The Director and Office of Experiential Education Team will be responsible for site recruitment, and preceptor recruitment and training, development, and recognition.

Responsibilities Core responsibilities of these positions include:

  • Oversee the experiential education program. Develop and maintain professional relationships that support the vision and mission of the School of Pharmacy.
  • Provide the leadership necessary to develop and implement effective outcomes for the experiential learning program.
  • Identify, procure, develop, and maintain sufficient experiential sites for IPPE, IPE, and APPE rotations for the students of the School of Pharmacy.
  • Manage a standardized system for student assignments to IPPE, IPE, and APPE sites.
  • Develop and maintain effective and transparent processes for student, preceptor, and site evaluations, including the creation and use of electronic systems for timely, accurate assessment and grade reporting.
  • Maintain harmonious relationships with students, preceptors, colleagues, and experiential education constituents.
  • Provide mentorship to preceptors and students assigned to experiential sites.
  • Maintain an effective program for recognizing sites and preceptors for the educational support rendered to the School of Pharmacy and its students.
  • Visit with preceptors and perform site evaluations.
  • Supervise the delivery of the Experiential Education Seminar during IPPE, IPE, and APPE rotations.
  • Pursue professional development and scholarly activities, as prioritized.
  • Participate in accreditation and regulatory processes as appropriate.
  • Provide service to the School of Pharmacy as assigned by the Dean.

Requirements Qualifications

Applicants must hold a Doctor of Pharmacy or B.S in Pharmacy degree from an accredited pharmacy program, have completed a residency or fellowship (or possess equivalent experience), and be eligible for Wisconsin licensure. A minimum of 5 years’ experience in direct patient care, serving as a preceptor for pharmacy students or other healthcare related experience is required. Candidates will have a working knowledge of emerging healthcare delivery models that involve the pharmacy profession; possess the ability to collaborate with faculty and academic leadership to sustain a culture of interprofessional education; have experience in experiential education of pharmacy students and residents; demonstrate organizational, interpersonal and group communication skills; and be active in professional organizations. Applicants should possess enthusiasm for the profession and the interpersonal skills necessary for interacting with learners, faculty, patients, healthcare providers, and the public.
