The Illinois Council of Health-System Pharmacists (ICHP) supports employee drug testing in the workplace.
All pharmacy employees and job applicants must be informed of the employer’s policy regarding drug testing and a copy of the drug testing policy should be made available to all pharmacy employees.
Drug testing should be conducted prior to employment and when the pharmacy employer reasonably suspects diversion or impairment based on defined criteria with appropriate procedures.
Employers should have a policy and procedure which offers an employer-sponsored addiction recovery program that supports impaired individuals.1
