Learning Objectives:

At the conclusion of this knowledge-based continuing pharmacy education activity, pharmacist participants should be able to:

1. Identify factors that can contribute to augmented renal clearance. Discuss the ARC and ARCTIC scoring systems for risk of augmented renal clearance.
2. Explain the different methods of calculating creatinine clearance and eGFR and discuss their limitations.
3. Recall how pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic factors of time and concentration impact the effects of antimicrobials. Discuss the implications they have on dose adjustment with augmented renal clearance.
4. Explain pharmacokinetic and evidence-based approaches to dose adjusting antimicrobials in augmented renal clearance to prevent subtherapeutic doses. Recognize limitations of currently available evidence.
5. Outline an appropriate drug dosing regimen for a patient with ARC using available evidence while considering pharmacokinetic drug properties. Recognize limitations of currently available evidence for non-antibiotic drugs.
