Register below. There is no fee for ICHP members to attend this activity. You must register online in advance to attend this program. The cost for non-members to attend is $20. You may attend once as a non-member for free but thereafter must join ICHP as a member. However, those who do not attend and do not cancel within 48 hours of the program will be charged $20.00 to cover expenses. Members who attend the meeting will not be charged the fee. Please bring a copy of your registration verification form with you to the meeting. There is limited seating, so register early.

Learning Objectives:

At the conclusion of this knowledge-based continuing pharmacy education activity, pharmacist participants should be able to:
    1. Describe the etiology of aspiration pneumonia.
    2. List pathogens which are commonly responsible for cases of aspiration pneumonia.
    3. Outline the roles of antimicrobials used to empirically treat aspiration pneumonia.
    4. Select antimicrobials which are ideal for definitive therapy for a patient with aspiration pneumonia.
    5. Recognize antimicrobial regimens which are inappropriate for a patient with aspiration pneumonia.

    At the conclusion of this knowledge-based continuing pharmacy education activity, pharmacy technician participants should be able to:

    1. Define the term "aspiration event" and its relevance to aspiration pneumonia.
    2. Classify antimicrobials used in aspiration pneumonia by their route(s) of administration.
    3. Recognize antimicrobial doses and frequencies which are appropriate for use in aspiration pneumonia.
    4. Define the terms "empiric therapy" and "definitive therapy" as they relate to antimicrobials.
    5. List storage and stability concerns for antimicrobials used for the treatment of aspiration pneumonia.

    Target Audience: This knowledge-based activity was developed for Health-System Pharmacists.

    PTCB requires CPhTs to earn only pharmacy technician-specific (‘T-specific’) credit to qualify for recertification. In addition, PTCB allows 5 hours of in-service training, however, no in-service training will qualify for CE starting in 2018. Please advise all pharmacy technicians at your site of these requirements.
