CONTINUING PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

The Illinois Council of Health-System Pharmacists (ICHP) recognizes that pharmacy is a profession. As members of a profession, pharmacists are obligated to maintain their professional competency by keeping their knowledge base and skill set up to date. With the ever changing world of health care delivery and increasing demands of patients, it is imperative that pharmacists commit to maintaining professional competence through lifelong learning.

In addition, pharmacy support personnel must develop and maintain skills necessary to support pharmacists in their current roles as well as those that develop over time.

Continuing professional development can be achieved via myriad means, including:

continuing education programs
skills development workshops
competency certification programs
professional meeting attendance
journal subscriptions and/or maintaining knowledge of current relevant literature
teaching pharmacy students, residents, and other pharmacists
