Vol. 2 - # 5 – May 2012
Dear Champion,
ICHP Champion Page on the Website – Check out updates on the Champion page at
http://www.ichpnet.org/membership_about_us/champions/ichp_champions.php.
2012 ICHP Best Practice Award – Time to complete your best practice submission. Applications are now being accepted by the ICHP office and more details are available at
http://www.ichpnet.org/professional_practice/best_practices/. This award has been presented for the past four years and highlights new and innovative practices in Illinois pharmacies!
2012 ICHP Annual Meeting - We want to remind you and your colleagues that the ICHP Annual Meeting will be held in Oakbrook Terrace, IL on September 13-15, 2012. Save the date! Information on the continuing pharmacy education programs and registration will be out soon so check back on the ICHP website or Facebook page often.
ICHP Board and Officer Candidates Sought – If you, or a colleague, are ready to step into a leadership position with ICHP, now is the time to step forward. This year we are seeking two candidates for the following offices: President-elect; Treasurer-elect; Director-elect of Government Affairs; Director-elect of Organizational Affairs; Director-elect of Professional Affairs; Chair of the House of Delegates; and Central, Northern and Southern Region Director-elects. You may submit a nomination by contacting Carrie Sincak at csinca@midwestern.edu or Scott Meyers at scottm@ichpnet.org . If you nominate someone other than yourself, they will be contacted to confirm their willingness to serve.
Delegates to the ICHP House of Delegates – Please consider running for a delegate from your local ICHP affiliate or encourage your colleagues to do the same for the 2012 House of Delegates to be held at the Annual Meeting in September. Delegates who attend both sessions of the House are eligible for a 50% rebate of their early-bird registration fee and one night’s lodging at the Annual Meeting Hotel, the Hilton Garden Inn. (Complimentary Lodging is not provided to delegates within 50 miles of the Drury Lane Theater as determined online by Mapquest.) Delegates must be registered in advance of the meeting, must be elected or at least approved by the affiliate president or ICHP Executive Committee and must attend both full meetings of the House on Thursday evening and Saturday morning. For more information, interested individuals should contact the ICHP office at (815) 227-9292 or Scott Meyers at scottm@ichpnet.org.
Legislative Update – Not much has changed since last month. The General Assembly seems to actually be working on Medicaid Reform seriously and if that’s the case, things will be much tighter for all of healthcare. Pension reform seems to be moving forward too although perhaps not as resolutely. If the General Assembly don’t get the budget corrections made before May 31st it will take a super majority 3/5th vote to pass anything. SB3513 which expands the ability of pharmacists to immunize children age 10-13 for Influenza and Tdap has moved to the House Health Care Licenses Committee so passage is still expected.
ASHP PPMI Hospital Self-Assessment – ICHP is encouraging all Illinois hospital pharmacy directors or their designee to complete ASHP’s PPMI hospital self-assessment. The PPMI (Pharmacy Practice Model Initiative) is intended to move pharmacy practice forward in the nation’s hospitals. The self-assessment helps pharmacy directors better understand where their departments stand with respect to the vision of practice in the future. In addition, ICHP hopes to use the aggregate information for the State to develop programming and professional practice goals for the next several years. More details are available at
http://www.ashp.org/ppmi .
Next Champion Webinar – The next ICHP Champion webinar is titled “Caring for Hospitalized HIV-positive Patients from Admission to Discharge: Factors to Consider.” The date is May 23rd at noon. Your staff would receive 0.5 hours of CPE if they are ICHP members (non-members must pay $12.50 to get a statement of credit). If they do not want CPE credit they are still welcome to listen to the presentation. This presentation is meant for pharmacists who do not regularly see HIV patients but still need to stay abreast of taking care of these patients should they be admitted. The July webinar is July 12th and 17th and is titled “From Rabies to RSI” – a review of tips for care in the Emergency Department.
