Description
Habitat for Humanity Women Build
Saturday, July 18th 7:45am-3pm

Where: 119th & S Union Ave in the West Pullman neighborhood in Chicago

Windy City Habitat for Humanity is building up a previously vacant block in the West Pullman neighborhood in Chicago. Habitat for Humanity Women Build is a five day build event on the block, bringing together over 60 Chicagoland women each day to fund and build the home of a woman-led family, the Spencers. ICHP member Stephanie Salazar, PharmD is leading a team for the Saturday, July 18th build day and is looking for volunteers.

Each volunteer works on a build site for one day, 7:45am-3pm. No construction experience is necessary to participate- there are crew leaders on site who will teach volunteers how to do each task. Each builder is responsible for raising a minimum of $250. Habitat has a website where volunteers can customize their own fundraising page, and they also have fundraising email templates on the site.

The future Habitat homeowner, Angela Spencer, works as a part time LPN. She has twin 9 year old boys, a 13 year old boy who is a 3 time IL state champion wrestler, and two adult children. Her adult daughter is in college and just visited China through her school last summer. Ms. Spencer has done the Avon Breast Cancer Walk and she volunteered every day for three years at her boys' school. She says she most looks forward to having barbecues in her new house and the 9 year old twins say they most look forward to having sleepovers.
